RVing in Japan, pre-summer update.
First part of the story, a lot of adventures and miles were made with Esther the Car.
One wet wet wet Friday afternoon we took Esther for a spin along coast in Itoshima.
Drinking coffee here, eating pizza there.
And a couple of times, Esther served as camper for our birding and hiking trips in central Kyushu.
(see follow-up blogs)
1 weekend we had this Camper Meetup Camp with 3seven77 clients and staff in Kumamoto.
A not often seen combination in Nippon.
One reason is, the need of a special driver's license to tow even a smaller trailer like this one.
After the camp-event we took the back roads home.
Isn't this an awesome driving country?
So convenient these convenient stores.
And yes, .... we were a bit happily busy with customers from the Netherlands.
More to follow.
Of course, for more chats & pictures, see

RVing in Japan made easy 7
RVing in Japan made easy.
We dropped in at Omuta Hanapurasukan Rest Area.
One of the many "road stations" that can be found in Kyushu.
Great for a rest, feed, toilet or even an overnight (free of charge) stop.

Spring is Here.
Drive N See went for a pleasant
drive & hike including an
Ika Sashimi Lunch at Yobuko in Saga Ken.
And on the way, we made a stop for a stroll
at the Karatsu Castle Gardens.
Quality time at Nanatsugama Park between Karatsu and Yobuko.
One of our favorite places to visit.
Great views over Genkai Sea.
Yobuko is well known for its fish.
Most famous dish is of course fresh squid served as
Ika-Ikizukuri
Around town all sorts of fish dried and seasoned.
Todays it was the perfect day to do so.
Yobuko, homeport for many fishermen.

RVing in Japan made easy.
Where to camp for the night?
This picture shows Esther the RV parked for the night.
We found this possy off-the-road, next to a temple.
Btw, usually when you spot huge trees like these...there is a temple to be found.
After breakfast a hike into the hills
treated us to these kind of sceneries.
Bet you wish you where here....

RVing in Japan made easy 5
RVing in Japan made easy.
Kyushu has plenty of winding mountain roads
and hence plenty of mirror aids.
Great for making selfies .
This is @ Takachiho, Miyazaki ken.
Because there is limited parking available at the gorge,
we left our RV @ the car park on the top and walked this road, a pleasant 20 minute stroll.

RVing in Japan made easy 4
RVing in Japan made easy.
We made a stop at this road-station, located at a scenic lake. Good place for a stroll, a quick bite and some coffee.
It's OK for an overnight P, clean toilets, 24h.
The shores of the lake are covered with Sakura trees.
It must be awesome to visit this place in March.
And yes, they do sell ice cream....

RVing in Japan made easy 3
RVing in Japan made easy 3.
All camper-rentals in Japan come with car-navigation. BUT unfortunately they only work in Japanese mode.
We always use Google Navi via our tablet/smartphone/wifi.
Works perfect.

RVing around Steaming Saga Countryside
In January we took Esther the RV
for a weekend spin around
Mt Tara in Saga ken, Kyushu.
This part of Japan and especially at this time of the year
it is off-the-beaten-track.
Nice and quiet.
First day was exploring birdlife near the Ariaki Sea, next day was land-inwards.
There are truly zillion of soaking options in Saga ken, so of course we enjoyed a wonderful bath at one of the hot-springs.
Slept a peaceful sleep at the parking lot near a playground park (super clean toilets),
and woke up next morning to a wintery wonderland with snow at the higher altitude roads.
(Both hotspring and parking area are along route 444,
not far from each other).
Typical mountain road...
1 car at a time.
The sudden change in weather made it into a magic scenery.
Esther the RV.
Small, cozy and multi purpose.
The fields across this valley have some tea crops.
So now you know how Iced Tea is grown ;-)
Traditional farm-house.
Luff those roof constructions.
Steaming hills.
Things you see when driving around Saga ken....
...and things you eat in Ureshino, small town famous for its hot springs and.....
Tofu nabe.
Wake me up any time!!
Yummy.
